The Bazarruto Archipelago consists of Five Islands: Bazaruto, Magaruque, Santa Carolina, Benguera (Benguerra) and Bangue, each breathtaking in its own unique way. These islands have numerous upmarket lodges and hotels that provide for a very memorable experince. Large sand dunes overlook freshwater lakes, which are nesting grounds for black-winged flamingoes. The islands are home to small herds of red duiker antelope as well as freshwater crocodiles and samango monkeys. The reefs are home to turtles, dolphins and rare dugongs, which can be seen snorkling in clear blue waters.
Bazaruto offers a multitude of delights for the avid fisherman, for both big game and surf fishing. Diving in and amongst the Archipelago's warm currents is internationally renowned as one of the world's prime diving destinations. There are numerous opportunities for bird watching and viewing wildlife from the fresh water lakes to the sand dunes, or to the grasslands and swamps, viewing possibilities abound.
