Regional Weather

Below please find a list of the general climates for each country that make for a good guideline of when to visit. For daily or weekly forecasts to plan your trip please go to www.weather.com.

Botswana
The best time to visit is during the dry season. August-October is best, but anytime March-November is okay with May-September being the driest. Nights are surprisingly cold during the dry season, so take along a warm sweater. Many of the Okavango Delta camps are closed at the height of summer (December-March), when it's very hot over 40° C . If you go then, you'll find some solace in the lush scenery and the number of baby animals around. Water levels are at their highest in June and August. The Okavango Delta shrinks considerably during the dry season, and by September, some of the wildlife viewing suffers in the outer fringes. It rains the most in the north, around the Okavango Delta. However in the Kalahari in the south, it almost never rains. For Botswana accommodation click here. Mozambique
There are two main seasons in Mozambique, one wet and the other dry. The wet season is from November to March and has a monthly average temperature of between 26°C and 29°C. The dry season lasts from April to October. In June and July temperatures averaging 18°C to 20°C. The average annual rainfall is greatest over the western hills and the central areas about 56 inches, and lowest in the Zambezi lowlands averaging 16 inches to 32 inches. Namibia
The best time to visit is March-October with April-June being preferred, when it rains the least though the rain from October-March may not amount to much, it is enough to scatter the wildlife significantly . The temperature is generally warm during the day, but it can drop to sweater weather at night. The coldest month is July. For Namibian accommodation click here. South Africa
Compared to other regions at that latitude, temperatures in many areas of South Africa are rather lower. The cold Benguela current causes moderate temperatures on the West Coast, and on the central plateau the altitude (Jo'burg lies at 1753m) keeps the average temperatures below 30 degrees Celsius. In winter, also due to altitude, temperatures drop to the freezing point, and in places even lower. Then it is warmest in the coastal regions. Precipitation is to be expected mainly in the summer months, with the exception of the Western Cape which is a winter-rain area. For your tour planning keep in mind that the seasons in the southern hemisphere stand in direct opposition to those of the northern hemisphere. For South African Accommodation click here. Swaziland

Generally speaking, rain falls mostly during the summer months, often in the form of thunderstorms. Winter is the dry season. Annual rainfall is highest on the Highveld in the West, between 1000 and 2000 mm depending on the year. The further East, the less rain, with the Lowveld recording 500 to 900 mm per annum.Variations in temperature are also related to the altitude of the different regions. The Highveld temperature is temperate and, seldom, uncomfortably hot while the Lowveld may record temperatures around 40 degrees in summer. Zambia
Because of its high elevation, temperatures are generally moderate, except in October, when it can become stiflingly hot. May and September are known as the cooler months while August and September are best for walking safaris: As the land dries out, the grass has been grazed down and the animals congregate in herds around water holes. After the rains, the animals disperse among the tall, thick foliage and are harder to spot. The rainy season is nice with the wildflowers in bloom it is beautiful at this time of the year. Year-round the evenings are generally cool. For accommodation in Zambia please click here. For up to date weather information please use the following web link www.weather.com

Zimbabwe

The dry winter months (May to October) are the most comfortable for traveling, but you'll miss the green landscapes that characterise the hotter and wetter summer season (November to April). In winter, night-time temperatures can fall below freezing but the days are best for wildlife viewing because animals tend to concentrate close to water holes and are therefore easily observed. The Victoria Falls is Zimbabwe's premier attraction and the best time to go is when the Zambezi is in flood (usually from April to June).
