Hout Bay is a beautiful suburb that boasts wonderful beaches and mountains. It’s a suburb that has three distinct routes that can be taken to get to Cape Town, all of which are scenic drives. With so much to keep you entertained in the area, Hout Bay accommodation is readily available to ensure you don't have to miss out on anything.
It is situated along the Atlantic seaboard in a valley, its name referring to both the suburb and bay on which it is found. The idiosyncratic and timeless beauty of Hout Bay is what makes it so popular among locals and visitors from all over. The suburb has retained its unique reputation as a fishing village with an idyllic country atmosphere. The bay is framed by mountains with long, white sandy beaches that exude a naturally nostalgic ambience luring in visitors with its undeniable beauty.
The first of the three routes into the city provide spectacular views of Cape Town from various vantage points. Chapman’s Peak, although a toll road, is the most popular route as there is no other that bears a greater view. A windy, seemingly endless road with steep, rocky inclines, shimmering waters and sweeping blue skies, Chapmans Peak Drive won’t disappoint.
The other two routes include driving over Suikerbossie Hill to Llandudno and a few other Atlantic beaches of Cape Town. Travelling along the shadow of the Twelve Apostles, behind Table Mountain, travellers can expect equally memorable views of the Mother City and its natural wonders from a whole different viewpoint. The third alternative route is along Constantia Wine Route, over Constantia Nek in the Southern Suburbs. This route provides a panoramic view of False Bay, leading into the fairytale Constantia Valley.
The beaches, mountains and reserves offer many fun-filled activities suitable for all kinds of travellers. Hiking, cycling and abseiling in the surrounding mountains and game fishing are some well-known activities that attract both locals and those visiting. Hout Bay is famous for its water sports, where the most extreme surf beach in South Africa, Dungeons Beach is situated and where the Red Bull Wave Africa Contest is held annually.
Drum Beat Charters offers scenic cruises to Duiker Island where thousands of Cape Fur Seals can be viewed from the boat or from the water snorkelling. The World of Birds Wildlife Sanctuary is also a big attraction as is fishing for Yellowfin Tuna among many other kinds of fish. For a more cultural experience, visit the Bay Harbour Market or the Clay Café where you can test your skills at pottery.
With so much do to and so much to see, Hout Bay offers a variety of accommodation from self-catering to bed and breakfasts, guest houses and hotels.

What a beautiful Lodge, excellent service (5 star), location is one of the best in this country. We received outstanding service from a team that exceeded every need we had as a family. The breakfast is outstanding and they catered for my children's needs which included items not on the normal breakfast menu.
