Waterval Boven is a small town in the Mpumalanga Province of South Africa.
It is now known as Emgwenya and it is situated on an escarpment, on the banks of the Elands River. At the Elands River, there is a waterfall from which the name of the town derives and it makes a popular tourist destination and stopover for those travelling from Pretoria en route to Maputo. Neatly tucked in the Drakensberg Mountains at the southen foot, Waterval Boven boasts a natural bushveld beauty while the mountain provides for excellent views. This makes it a major rock climbing and hiking destination and a haven for any keen climber.
The town is also home to the old Tunnel and Five Arch Bridge that is worth visiting and as the town of the official residence of Paul Kruger, Waterval Boven is historical and home to a number of national declared monuments worth seeing. Other enjoyable activities in the town include fly fishing and swimming in one of the riversand spending some time at the Eland Falls is time well-spent.
