EXPLORE Elgin

Elgin is a lush city situated in the Overberg region of the Western Cape, South Africa, which also forms part of the popular Cape Winelands Route. Elgin is only 70km away from Cape Town making the city capetonians’ favourite weekend getaway destinations.
Other small but exciting towns surrounding the Elgin Valley include Grabouw, Villiersdorp, Houw Hoek and Bot River.  Altogether, these towns form the world’s first biodiversity wine route known as the Green Mountain Eco Route.

The city is well surrounded by the Hottentots Holland Mountain Range, which perfectly positions Elgin in a fertile and fruitful valley. The city boasts a great capacity to grow apples, pears, grapes and greenhouse flowers, including roses, and dabbles in the production of good quality wines given the cool climate.  The Elgin Valley is a declared UNESCO heritage site and it is protected by the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve.

With great weather in Elgin, neither too hot nor too cold, the town is one of the best destinations to enjoy outdoor activities. In Elgin, you will be sure to find excellent hiking and mountain biking trails. Water sports like trout and bass fishing, fly fishing and kloofing are also available.
