The ultimate luxury of an African safari is watching endless herds of wildlife drinking at the river or taking a shower in full view of the setting sun, as the first roar of a lion echoes across the river below.
With this in mind, Meno A Kwena offers eight serviced canvas tents, each with a semi en-suite shower, flush toilet and authentic outdoor safari shower. The showers are all within an enclosure of thorny branches for safety from wandering wildlife, and tea and coffee facilities are also provided. The tents are hidden amongst the natural vegetation for privacy, but in full view of the Boteti River where wildlife comes to drink. All meals are served in the dining tent, that also doubles as the bar, kitchen, lounge area and library tent, while a plunge pool provides welcome relief in summer. A laundry service is inclusive to all guests accommodated for more than one night, weather permitting. For guests' comfort, the tents are insect-, and everything else-proof. The dry and cool winter months, June to September, are usually free of disease-carrying insects and so malaria is not as prevalent as it can be during our summer months from October to May.
Meno A Kwena Tented Camp recommends and supplies bottled water and guests are reminded that summer heat and winter chill can be extreme and should pack accordingly. Meno A Kwena Tented Camp is situated in one of the most ideal locations where spectacular wildlife sightings are experienced within view of the camp all year round. To make the experience even more spectacular , Meno A Kwena offers a floating viewing hide where guests can view the elephants while the enjoy a swim in the river, or guests can go on a Bushman nature walking tour which enhances the variety of wildlife safari experiences.
The camp also has year round access to two National Parks and a wildlife reserve. Some of Botswana’s most impressive wildlife concentrations occur along the river during the dry season and includes large herds of zebra and wildebeest, antelope, elephant, White rhino, predators, giraffe, hippo, crocodile, and many bird species. A number of resident species do not migrate away at the onset of the rains and so the Boteti area maintains a population of wildlife all year round.
Meno A Kwena Safari Camp is located on the western boundary of Makgadikgadi Pans National Park (MPNP). The camp is situated on tribal land overlooking the exceptionally scenic Boteti River now flowing since 2008. The river brings Okavango Delta overflow through Meno A Kwena to Lake Xau and the Makgadikgadi Saltpans on the edge of Central Kalahari Game Reserve. This natural phenomenon occurs on a 40 year cycle when we experience higher than average rainfall in the region. The impact of higher than average water levels in the Okavango Delta causes a mass exodus of wildlife from the inundated floodplains to the fringe edges including – Khwai, Selinda, Mababe, Savute, Santawani and Boteti Rivers. It is estimated these conditions will persist for another two to three decades.
Meno A Kwena Tented Camp is an authentic, unique, tented safari camp ideally situated for safaris to Makgadikgadi and Nxai Pans National Parks and Central Kalahari Game Reserve. Meno A Kwena incorporates a traditional safari theme with African culture in a wildlife environment that excites all emotions.
