Swakopmund is known as Namibia’s premier seaside town. Surrounded by the desert and the cool Atlantic, the climate is quite temperate. The town, established in 1892, was originally a Port for Colonial German ships traveling from Europe to Africa. The town has therefore a very strong German influence in its architecture and notable buildings include the Altes Gefängnis prison.
