Gorges Lodge has a heart-stopping location atop the escarpment of the Zambezi River gorge a few miles downstream from Victoria Falls. The ten individual stone and thatch cottages are set on the very edge of the World Heritage Site, Bakoka Gorge, over 250 meters above the Zambezi River: Four double story and six single story comfortable cottages all have their own private bathroom facilities, fans, mini bar and wide private sheltered verandahs where you can sit back and drink in the view. Meals and sundowners are taken in the main lodge lapa complex which seems to dangle over the edge of the gorge. From this birds eye view you can see the white water rafters below as they enjoy a days adventure on the river or the numerous bird species which ride the currents in the gorge including the black eagle or rare taita falcon. The lodge environs comprise unspoiled riverine vegetation inhabited by numerous species of wild animals and birds. The area is home to the brown eagle and the rare tiger falcon. The gardens are beautiful and there is a swimming pool. There is no air-conditioning, but there are fans. A special feature at the lodge is an all day tiger fishing excursion to Sidinda Island Lodge, approximately 50 miles further downstream. This white water and exclusive use area provides some of Zimbabwe's best tiger fishing.
