The Guest House is situated in the tranquil village of Vanrhynsdorp. Watched over by the majestic Matzikamma (Maskam) Mountain Vanrhynsdorp, founded as Trutro (Troe-Troe) in 1751, is the oldest and southern most town in Namaqualand. The village has a distinct Victorian character and is also home to the larest succulent nursery of its kind in the world.
A mere 3 hours drive ( 300 km) from Cape Town, the town is situated on the N7 / R27 intersection and is the ideal base to explore Namaqualand and the Hantam Karoo. Unique to the region is the convergence of three botanical kingdoms namely Nama-Karoo, Succulents in the Knersvlakte and Cape Fynbos on the mountains. Majestic sandstone rock formations are to be found in the mountains surrounding Vanrhynsdorp along with Koi and Bushmen rock art.
N7 from Cape Town / Namibia: Take the off ramp down to the first STOP sign. Turn Left into Van Riebeeck St. 300 m turn Right into Guest House entrance.
R27 from Calvinia / Johannesburg: Follow directions through town to Cape Town. On turning into Van Riebeeck St at the Church, travel 400 m and turn Left into Guest House entrance.
