Rooipoort Guestfarm lies in the Philipstown district near Colesberg in the Upper Karoo.The graceful farmstead reflects typical Karoo architecture with wooden floors and ceilings. Three course dinners and breakfasts are served in colonial style but self-catering is also an option. This quiet and peaceful homestead lies conveniently halfway between Johannesburg and Cape Town on an alternative route. This is a 4000 ha working sheep farm with various game species and rock-engravings.

In the area many rock-engravings can be found as well as manifestations of the Boer War. The Upper Karoo witnessed a great part of the South African history. Nearby towns are Colesberg, Hanover, Vanderkloof and De Aar.

From Johannesburg: Take the N1 towards Bloemfontein, at Bloemfontein turn onto the N8 to Kimberley. At Petrusburg turn off onto the R48 towards Koffiefontein, Luckhoff and Petrusville. 40 km beyond Petrusville in the direction of Philipstown turn right onto short gravelroad (4 km) to Rooipoort. Turnoff is marked with a clear Rooipoort sign. From Cape Town: Take the N1 towards Hanover, turn off onto the R48 5km beyond Hanover. Drive through Philipstown towards Petrusville. 10 km beyond Philipstown turn left at clear Rooipoort sign onto short gravel road.(4 km)
