AREA INFORMATION
Only 478km from central Johannesburg, Kuruman is known as the oasis of the Kalahari, with it’s natural fountain in the centre of town delivering around 20 million litres of crystal clear water daily. Commonly known as “The Eye” legend tells, that any who drink from it’s clear spring may never wish to leave Kuruman again. Robert Moffat, Scottish missionary, who translated the Bible into Tswana, lived here for 50 years. World-famous explorer, David Livingstone, lost his heart here to the daughter of the Reverend Moffat. On the main route between Gauteng and Namibia, and Cape Town via Upington, this area is an ideal stop over for weary travellers, hunters, amateur geologists or Kalahari explorers. Stay over with us en route to the Augrabies, Kgalagadi National Park, the Wild Flowers or come and stay for a week, a month and explore the Kalahari.
