Experience the country village of Magaliesburg (about 1 hour from Johannesburg & Pretoria) nestling in the foothills of the Magaliesburg mountains while staying in one of the refurbished quaint Blaauwbank Cottages dating from the 1920's. These cottages are just outside the village and are located near to the old Blaauwbank Antique store. In the distance is the old railway station and goods shed which has been turned into a crafts and curio shop & if you are lucky you will see a train winding through the valley on its way between Johannesburg & Botswana. High up on the hill opposite is the historic Blaauwbank Gold Mine which pre-dates Johannesburg & which is open to the public. Using the cottages as your base you can explore the area both nearby & further afield. From the mine, antique, craft & furniture shops & restaurants of the village you are within easy striking distance of the Sterkfontein world heritage site with the Sterkfontein Caves (& Mrs Ples & Little Foot), Rustenburg with its wonderful Kloof & Nature Reserve; Sun City & the Pilanesberg Game Reserve are about 1 ? hours away. The larger cottage has three bedrooms each with a queen - size bed. Its character wooden floors, ceilings and windows compliment its corrugated iron roof and front stoep which will remind you of eras gone by. There is a braai (barbeque) area under a large pepper tree. The smaller cottage has corrugated iron outer walls giving it a truly Victorian mining town feel which is accentuated by its inner wooden walls, ceiling & floors. Its single bedroom with queen - size bed makes it an ideal romantic hideaway. It has its own braai (barbeque) area. Both cottages have fire places.
