On the opposite side of town to virtually all the other lodges, Hakusembe is about 16km west of Rundu ? off the main road to Nkurenkuru. To reach it, take a turning northwest off the main Rundu?Grootfontein road about 4km southwest of Rundu. Follow this towards Nkurenkuru for about 10km (8km of tar and 2km of gravel), until the lodge is signposted towards the river. Hakusembe was opened in March '97, and is still run by its owners Cobus and Riana Smit as a restcamp, which also has activities available. All the chalets have 24-hour electricity, and are simple and functional with en-suite shower and toilet. These are set amidst green lawns leading on to the river, and nearby, under thatch, is the bar (popular with residents) and dining area.
