Where the Limpopo bends and winds to meet the sea there stands a light house. And nestled between the dunes and the trees an unspoiled paradise waits for you. The Lodge accommodates a total of 62 guests in two bedroom family units (accommodating four) or pool chalets (accommodating two). All have en-suite bathrooms and sliding doors opening out onto extended wooden balconies where you can enjoy the magnificence of your surroundings. Zongoene Lodge is situated at the mouth of the Limpopo River approximately 225km north of Maputo and approximately 8km by sea from Praia de Xai Xai. The Lodge is situated on 7 ha, which is surrounded by pristine coastal forests, dunes and beaches. These forests, dunes and beaches stretch for miles on either side of the mouth of the river. The Former President of Mozambique, His Excellency Joaquim Chissano, officially opened the Lodge in October 1997. Every effort was made to construct the Lodge from local materials using local labour. Chamfuti (Pod Mahogany) wood was processed on site to construct finishing’s and furniture, while the majority of the roofs are thatched. During the course of construction more than 300 artisans like bricklayers, carpenters, thatcher’s, wood carvers etc from the surrounding villages were trained. The local fauna and flora was carefully considered when planning and laying out the Lodge. As many of the trees and palms were retained as was possible. More than 1000 palms and other indigenous plants were planted creating a wonderful and lush garden. The Lodge skippers are trained in tag and release techniques and we encourage our guests to adopt this practice. The Lodge supplies the Oceanographic Research Institute in Durban with valuable data concerning the sea life around the Lodge

All Vehicles Turn left after the Matola toll plaza, on the outskirts of Maputo, following the signs to Xai-Xai - Route EN1 Your route will lead past the main towns of: Marracuene, Manhiça, Macia and Chissano. Before Xai-Xai on the main road is a big sign to Zongoene, turn right. This is approximately 192 km from Maputo on the main road at a small town called Chicumbane. On your left, you will see an electrical transformer station. Keep on the main road for approximately 35kms to the lodge. Follow Zongoene pointers at the intersections.
